Alvear Pedro Ximenez 1830 & Alvear Pedro Ximenez 1927
« 於: 六月 17, 2010, 08:03:38 下午 »
Set up in 1729, Alvear are one of Spain’s most prestigious and internationally acclaimed Bodegas. Today’s Alvears are the eighth generation and all their ‘Goloroso’ wines are made from the Pedro Ximenez grapes, even their Fino.

Due to regulations they are not allowed to call these Montilla wines, Sherry, but they carry the same varieties, and of course the word Amontillado originated from ‘Montilla’.

Alvear are more famous for their intensely sweet liqueur wines, where the grapes are spread out on esparto grass mats to toast in the autumn sun, which dries the grapes until they are nearly raisins. Later, when they are crushed, the grapes will give a dense, raisin juice must, which will be vinified and aged to produce the lucious Pedro Ximenez wines. In 1999 Alvear PX 1830 was voted by Spain’s wine critics as the best wine in the country, beating : Artadi 1995, Vega Sicilia  1981, Pingus 1996 and Clos Erasumus 1996.

These 1927 & 1910 are rated by Parker. The 1830 is probably too old for him to get his hands on one bottle for tasting. Rumours says that The Royal Family of Spain likes this PX very much.

1927 Alvear Pedro Ximenez Solera
Alvear
A Pedro Ximenez Sweet White Sherry wine from Spain

Wine Advocate # 159

Jun 2005 Robert Parker 96 Drink:

The impressive 1927 Pedro Ximenez Solera, from a Solera begun nearly 80 years ago, boasts a dark amber color as well as an extraordinary nose of creme brulee, liquefied nuts, marmalade, and maple syrup. Huge and viscous, yet neither cloyingly sweet nor heavy, it is a profound effort priced unbelievably low. It is meant to be drunk alone at the end of a meal.

1910 Alvear Pedro Ximenez Solera

Alvear, A Pedro Ximenez Sweet White Sherry wine from Spain
Wine Advocate # 145

Feb 2003 Robert Parker 98 Drink:

The amazing, pedal to the metal/full throttle/balls to the wall, sweet 1910 Pedro Ximenez Solera is a dark amber-colored, full-bodied, unctuously-textured beauty that should be sipped and savored slowly and carefully at the end of a meal with a plate of cashews. It is remarkable stuff. The price is not high for what it represents.
